Hunger Relief Update

5/28/2024

Greetings from Pignon, Haiti!

Where does time go? We are approaching the halfway point of 2024 and I find that time is passing quickly. I can’t believe the end of the school year is only two months away! Every school year that passes by reminds me of God’s love and providence for the children at the Philadelphia Christian Mission of Pignon.

I thank God always for all of you who are our partners, for you are the greatest blessings God has placed in our path. Philippians 1:3-5 "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now."

THANK YOU for helping us raise $6917 for emergency foor relief for Haiit! Your generous support has provided hope during the ongoing food insecurity crisis affecting Haitian families. Your contributions have enabled our local staff and ministry leaders in Haiti to identify and assist those facing extreme hardship and provide food to families in urgent need. Your response is making a direct and meaningful impact as it allows us to offer hope and encouragement to our brothers and sisters in need.

The first distributions of food began around 03/30/2024 in Fontaine and around the mission house in Lacoste, Pignon, including a local orphanage caring for about 35 children. During our first distribution in those 3 locations, we were able to serve food to 172 families, including the orphanage.

Food distributions are continuing as we have been able to send funds to Haiti. Next week we are making plans to reach 100 new families with life-sustaining meals.

A food recipient expresses her thankfulness

My Name is Madame Calistaineis. I am a widow. After the death of my husband, I was left with nothing to survive with my 3 children.

With the help of a good neighbor, I started to sell candy in the street from a basket, but this cannot provide enough to feed my children. Often, we go for 2-3 days without a meal. Sometimes we chew a piece of sugar cane and that’s it! Today (3/30) was one of the days I did not know what we were going to eat.

When the leaders at PCMP invited me to receive a bag of food, it was like heaven opening and dropping mana for my family. I want to thank PCMP for their help in time of need. I pray God to continue to bless PCMP for what they are doing to save our lives. I also would like PCMP to convey my thanks to their supporters.

School update

As we are coming to the end of the school year, I am proud to announce the upcoming graduation classes of 2024. Three years ago, we began our Kindergarten classes in the newly constructed school building. On June 27th, we eagerly look forward to our first graduation ceremony, where we will celebrate the milestone of 12 wonderful children graduating from kindergarten! This is a moment of great pride for the children, parents, and our staff as we celebrate their achievements!

On August 16, we are looking forward to the graduation ceremony of 28 12th-grade students upon completing the National Government Exams. We are immensely proud of their dedication and hard work in achieving this significant milestone in their lives.

We are very thankful that despite the tensions and riots in the streets of almost all the major cities, the community of Fontaine remains calm. The schools and churches in the community continue to function.

The ongoing crisis in Haiti

The crisis in Haiti, especially in the Capital city, Port-Au-Prince, continues to deteriorate and causes the displacement of thousands of families who are fleeing their homes to escape gang violence. This past Saturday, a desperate father came to me with his family of six and explained how they barely escaped from their home, which is now occupied by gang members. They are currently homeless and seeking help. Please pray for God's wisdom, guidance, and provision as I try to do what I can to help them relocate.

How you can help

Please pray for the people of Haiti. The continuing gang violence has caused thousands to flee from their homes and the socio-political instability has devastating consequences for the Haitian people. We ask that you fervently pray for our ministry and those we serve. Pray for God to intervene with His mighty hand to bring a new Godly government and stability to Haiti. Nothing is impossible with God!

"I am the Lord the God of all mankind, is anything too hard for me?" (Jeremiah 32:27)

Thank you!

As always, thank you for faithfully supporting our work in Haiti. While times are tough, and I witness heartbreaking situations almost daily, I value your prayers for guidance and wisdom for both PCMP and, more importantly, for Haiti. These dark days will fade, but our Lord and Savior is everlasting, and our strength will rise as we wait upon him.
